The Roundabout Theatre Company, the lessee for the former Selwyn Theatre asked Francesca Russo Architect to join its project team as Restoration Architect for the historic theatre's interior. FRA proceeded to design the restoration of historic components including the theatre boxes, the 42nd Street lobby and lounge and the knuckle dome foyer, all of which had been either dismantled or destroyed. In order to meet the Roundabouts desire for a warm theatre interior, Ms. Russo found inspiration in the original Italian Renaissance Style mural palette. She developed a rich decorative scheme of renaissance red with accents of sienna and blue-green. In addition, FRA designed custom, carpet, drapery and seating incorporating extant details of the original design and the harmonious palette of the theatre.
