Members of the Bat Theatre Company signed a long-term lease for three floors of a 19th century industrial building. They then asked Francesca Russo Architect to develop a plan for their Off-Off Broadway Theatre; The Flea. The final design consisted of a flexible 1st floor theatre with a fixed grid and a mezzanine technical booth. The shared 1st floor lobby accessed the lower level rehearsal space/reading room as well as patron lounge facilities. The design included the development of egress acceptable to the NYC Building Department in order to utilize the cellar and sub-cellar. The sub-cellar production space is accessed by both an internal stair and exterior entrance.
