The Shubert Theatre was built as a memorial to Sam S. Shubert, one of the founding brothers of the Shubert Organization. Originally designed in the Venetian Renaissance style, the interior is embellished with relief plaster ornament and a series of murals. These details were restored with gilding and glazing highlighting the relief plaster. A variety of decorative painting techniques were also applied to the wall and door surfaces. Additional features included the design of custom drapery and theatre seating articulated to be evocative of the original designs.
